News Literacy Ambassadors
What does an Ambassador do?
News Literacy Ambassadors serve as outreach communicators for the News Literacy Initiative working to reach students and other public constituencies to help them separate news from noise.
Meet the AmbassadorsBecome an Ambassador
Penn State’s News Literacy Initiative has partnered with multiple press advocacy organizations and nonprofits to create the News Literacy Ambassador Institute. The Institute teaches students to reflect on the importance of journalism, to think critically about how news is produced, and to consider how it is shared in our increasingly digital world.
News Literacy Ambassador Institute
The 10-week News Literacy Ambassador Institute is offered in-person at Penn State, University Park.
It includes:
- Hybrid presentations led by affiliated partners and Penn State educators
- Interactive workshops designed to teach critical skills
- Discussion sessions with activities to dive deeper into the issues with their peers
Students who complete the 10-week course become official News Literacy Ambassadors and are positioned to apply for paid internships promoting the initiative across the University, as well as earn one academic credit and a certificate of professional achievement in news media literacy.
Ambassadors will also be provided with opportunities to engage in public scholarship, such as teaching junior students about the importance of news literacy and creating content for Penn State social media accounts.
