News Literacy as a Response to Misinformation

Dr. Melissa Tully from the University of Iowa speaks at University Park on the topic of news literacy and misinformation. Dr. Tully addressed research on news literacy as a response to misinformation in a variety of national contexts, drawing on both quantitative and qualitative data. Misinformation is a complex and evolving global problem that requires a multifaceted set of responses to address its spread and potential consequences. News literacy is one response to misinformation that crosses individual, structural, social, and cultural boundaries
Dr. Melissa Tully is the Director of and Professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa. She is also a Senior Research Fellow in the University’s Public Policy Center. Dr. Tully studies news literacy, misinformation, global media with a particular focus on African media studies, and engagement.
